More ideas to be kind to Animals

Have your pet cat or dog spayed or neutered. Thousands of unwanted pets end up in
area shelters EVERY YEAR.
• Make sure pets have regular visits to the veterinarian.
• Keep pets up-to-date on vaccinations.
• Make sure cats and dogs are wearing ID tags at all times ... even indoor pets.
• Keep pets clean and well groomed.
• Take your dog to obedience training or learn how to train them by reading a book.
• Learn about a healthy diet for your type of pet and feed him accordingly.
• Provide shelter for pets that spend time outdoors.
• Play with pets and give them the right amount of exercise.
• Keep cats indoors. They will live longer, safer, and healthier lives.
• Keep pets safe and comfy in hot weather and cold.
• Don’t leave pets in parked cars for more than a few minutes.
• Only provide toys that are safe for pets to play with.
• Give pets lots of love and attention.
• Always be kind and gentle with animals.

THINGS NOT TO DO
• Don’t declaw cats. Find a more humane method for eliminating destructive behavior.
• Don’t dock dogs’ tails or crop their ears (cut them off for cosmetic reasons).
• Never punish or train by hitting or yelling.
• Don’t encourage rough play; this could lead to aggression.
• Don’t disturb pets when eating, sleeping or caring for young. They may bite!

SHOW KINDNESS TO HOMELESS PETS
• Adopt a pet from an animal shelter rather than buying from a pet store.
• Collect food or supplies for shelter animals. Check area shelter’s wishlists for items
they can really use.
• Raise money for a shelter by having a bake sale, car wash or a penny drive.
Collect cans and bottles from your neighborhood and donate the money to a shelter.
Help Other Animals and the Environment We Share
• Set up a bird feeder and keep it full of bird food.
• Respect nature. Don’t touch or disturb natural habitats or the creatures living in them.
• Don’t litter. When you see litter, pick it up and dispose of it properly.
Participate in cleanups of areas where wild animals live.
• Recycle, in order to cut down the waste and pollution that destroy animals’ habitats.
• Learn more about animals through books or the Internet.
• Explore careers with animals.
• Help an animal in need. Bring lost animals to the shelter.
• Don’t support activities where animals are used for entertainment, such as circuses
and rodeos.
